What is the Midheaven in astrology?
The Midheaven is the point where the zodiac crosses the meridian, the line through the top of the sky, at the minute you were born, and it describes your public path: career, reputation and long-term direction. Astrologers write it as MC, short for the Latin medium coeli, middle of the sky.
How do I find my Midheaven?
You need your exact birth time and the place you were born, because the Midheaven moves through all twelve signs every day, much like the rising sign. Enter both in the calculator above and it gives your MC sign and degree.
If you don't know your birth time, choose a window and the calculator lists every Midheaven sign that falls inside it.
Where is the Midheaven in my chart?
On a chart wheel the Midheaven sits at or near the top, marked MC, opposite the IC at the bottom. Your rising sign sits on the left, on the eastern horizon.
Is the Midheaven the same as the 10th house?
In Placidus houses, the default here, the Midheaven is the starting line of your 10th house, the house of career and public life. In whole sign houses it can fall in the 9th, 10th or 11th house instead, which is one reason the two systems sometimes read differently. Your results tell you where it falls in the system you chose.
How do the Midheaven and Ascendant work together?
Your Ascendant describes how you come across up close, while your Midheaven describes how you want to be seen in the wider world and what you are working toward. A Cancer rising with an Aries Midheaven, for example, may seem gentle in person but push hard for independence in their career.

Questions people ask
Can I find my Midheaven without a birth time?
Not exactly. The Midheaven changes sign every couple of hours, so you need a time. With a rough window the calculator lists every possible sign.
Does the Midheaven tell me my career?
It describes the kind of reputation and direction that suits you rather than a single job. Astrologers read it alongside the 10th house, Saturn and your Sun.
Why is my Midheaven not exactly at the top of my chart?
Because the zodiac sits at an angle to the horizon, the MC is rarely exactly 90 degrees from the Ascendant. The farther from the equator you were born, the more it leans.
